Camilo A. Ruiz

Dr. Camilo Ruiz, DO, FACOI, FAASM, is a distinguished internist and sleep specialist certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sleep Medicine. He boasts seventeen years of clinical practice experience and is fluent in both English and Spanish. His journey into medicine was deeply influenced by the early loss of his father to cancer, igniting within him a profound desire to heal and serve others. Dr. Ruiz pursued his undergraduate education at Florida International University, graduating with honors in Biological Sciences. He then earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University before embarking on a rigorous internal medicine residency in Miami, Florida, where he also assumed the role of chief resident. Further honing his expertise, he underwent specialized training in sleep medicine and disorders.

At Broward Health Medical Center, Dr. Ruiz assumes the pivotal role of chair of medicine and contributes actively to its Medical Executive Committee. Additionally, he has lent his expertise to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), serving on its Coding and Compliance Committee and Educational Products Development Subcommittee. Recognized as an authoritative voice in the field, Dr. Ruiz is an official spokesperson for the AASM and plays a crucial role in advancing the practice of sleep medicine. Beyond his clinical and academic pursuits, he generously dedicates his time as a clinical assistant professor at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, and Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Medicine, nurturing the next generation of medical professionals. As the medical director of Sleep and Internal Medicine Specialists, Dr. Ruiz embodies a commitment to excellence in patient care, a dedication that earned him honorary fellow degrees from the American College of Osteopathic Internists in 2013 and American Academy of Sleep Medicine in 2017.
