    Dr. Keely Buesing is a nationally recognized trauma and critical care surgeon with extensive experience in the care of critically ill and injured patients. She is double board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Buesing is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and practices full-time at a Level I academic trauma center, where she provides expert care for critically ill and injured patients, including those with blunt and penetrating trauma, surgical emergencies, and complex abdominal conditions.

    Dr. Buesing brings an exceptional combination of clinical expertise, academic leadership, and legal insight to her role as an expert witness. Her areas of specialization include trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care, with particular focus on complications related to cholecystectomy, appendectomy, bowel obstruction and perforation, hernia repair (including mesh-related complications), hemorrhage, ICU management, and sepsis. She also has experience with robotic and minimally invasive surgical approaches and regularly consults on cases involving surgical judgment, timing of intervention, post-operative management, and standard of care in acute settings.

    Dr. Buesing earned her MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, completed general surgery residency at UNMC, and fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, one of the nation’s premier trauma and critical care centers.

    She holds an active clinical faculty appointment and serves as Core Faculty for the General Surgery Residency Program, where she provides operative instruction, critical care teaching, and longitudinal mentorship. She sits on both the Program Evaluation and Clinical Competency Committees, shaping surgical education and ensuring high standards of training and professionalism.

    In addition to clinical and educational leadership, Dr. Buesing directs the Division of Acute Care Surgery’s research efforts, with publications and national presentations focused on trauma outcomes, ICU care, and emergency surgical decision-making.

    As an expert witness, Dr. Buesing has been retained by both plaintiff and defense counsel in cases involving surgical error, delayed or inappropriate interventions, postoperative complications, and ICU-related adverse outcomes. She offers case reviews, expert reports, deposition, and trial testimony. Known for her clear, balanced opinions and ability to translate complex medical issues into understandable terms, she provides attorneys with authoritative insights grounded in current practice, evidence-based standards, and real-world experience.
