In addition to his academic and industry experience, Dr. Lavian has also provided expert testimony as a witness in patent-related cases involving network communications, telecommunications, mobile wireless, and Internet software technologies. He has a profound understanding of these complex technologies and is skilled at explaining them in a way that laypeople can easily understand. He has extensive experience preparing reports and testifying in Federal, IPR, and ITC cases. He has appeared before the USPTO PTAB in IPR and ITC proceedings in over 140 patent-related cases. He has worked with a wide range of leading companies in these cases, including Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, LinkedIn, Avaya, T-Mobile, AT&T, Ericsson, Sprint, Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Arista Networks, Polycom, Motorola, HP, LG, WhatsApp, Instagram, Huawei, Facebook, and Samsung.
He has over 35 years of experience in the field and has co-authored more than 25 scientific publications, journal articles, and peer-reviewed papers. His expertise is not limited to academia—Dr. Lavian has hands-on experience in technical, industrial research, and development. As an inventor, Dr. Lavian holds over 120 patents and has served as a Principal Investigator on three US Department of Defense (DARPA) projects. He has been instrumental in developing essential digital innovations, including internet protocols, streaming media, and mobile wireless technology.
