With over 50 years of experience in residential summer camping, Mr. Shapiro was the Owner and Director of Camp Sequoia in Rock Hill, New York. As a third-generation camp owner and director, he has expertise in all aspects of camp operations.
Mr. Shapiro has served as an Expert Consultant for numerous camps, using his extensive knowledge to improve camp practices. He has been an Accredited Member of the American Camp Association (ACA) since 1975. He served as an Accredited ACA Lead Standards Examiner (now known as Lead Standards Visitor) from 1992 to 2000. Additionally, he was a Board Member of the New York Section of the ACA from 1979 to 1980.
As a Lead Standards Visitor for the ACA, Mr. Shapiro inspected and evaluated over 20 camps according to more than 300 standards, providing guidance to camp directors on Camp Procedures and Standards of Care. He has also been directed by the ACA National Headquarters to conduct crisis intervention visits to camps facing allegations of child sexual molestation. He has successfully provided expert testimony in numerous trials related to camp sexual molestation and standards of care.
Mr. Shapiro was a regular presenter on Camp Ethics and Staff Relations at the ACA National Conference in New York. Additionally, he served as a guest lecturer at various universities, where he shared his expertise on Summer Camping, Counselor Skills, Crisis Management, and Standards of Care.
Mr. Shapiro holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences.
Mr. Shapiro has been a Forensic Expert with Park Dietz & Associates since 2014.
