I am currently a Professor of Engineering Practice in the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department at the University of Michigan where I teach classes in marine engineering and conduct research. I also own McCoy Consulting, LLC where I provide technical expertise to the marine and naval industries. With over 39 years of experience working in government, industry and academia, my knowledge includes ship design and construction, marine engineering, marine power and control systems, ship repair, shipboard operations and program management. I served in the US Navy for 22 years as an Engineering Duty Officer where I worked on several shipbuilding programs in various stages of the construction process. I am also experienced with technology development, having accomplished academic research, component and system development and prototyping, system integration, testing, and fleet introduction. I am Fellow of the IEEE, member of ASNE, SNAME, ABYC and DAV. I am a Licensed Professional Engineer and have published over 60 technical papers.
