About
Wendy E. Goodwin, MD, maintains triple board certification in Brain Injury Medicine, Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She is one of less than 100 physicians in the US who have these active credentials.
As an attending physician / assistant clinical professor at UT Southwestern / Children’s Medical Center which is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Because of this, she has a strong background in caring for the most severely injured children in the ICU immediately after injury (for example, battered babies, drownings, car wreck victims, critically, etc.) In addition, her outpatient clinic population consists of children with long-term developmental disabilities like Cerebral Palsy as well as acute concussion management.
She has experience caring for children along the spectrum of Traumatic Brain Injury — from soon after their accidents in the ICU — to many years later in the clinic setting. This spectrum also includes expertise in mild TBI (concussion) to severe TBI.
Dr. Goodwin’s unique value to both plaintiff attorneys and defense attorneys as an expert witness is her familiarity with the impact of injury on a child’s surroundings, such as their schooling, family dynamics, hobby or sport participation and future educational / vocational prospects. These facets of care are very important in Life Care Plans.
Hiring a “pediatric” subspecialist in Rehabilitation Medicine is crucial in court cases because of all aspects of child development, life expectancy and anticipated potential for education, occupation and living independently.
Finally, Dr. Goodwin feels very comfortable with public speaking and enjoys breaking down difficult medical concepts in a way that a judge and jury can understand. Her goal is to help her client attorneys understand all important medical aspects of their case so that they can do their job well. She makes herself available after hours and on weekends. She enjoys building a strategy for cases and even lines of questioning to cross-examine other experts. She is detail-oriented and does not rely on others to help with record review or reports. In oral testimony she strives to come across as calm, respectful, professional and relatable to juries.
